The Central Coast is home to one of the largest communities of older Australians in New South Wales and more than 13,000 NDIS participants. If you are looking for occupational therapy on the Central Coast, the good news is that services exist; the challenge is finding the right kind. Much of the region’s therapy capacity is clinic-based or focused on children, while a lot of the real need, from Woy Woy to Lake Haven, is for adults and older people who need an OT to come to their home. This guide explains how to access in-home OT across the Coast and how it is funded in 2026.
For home safety, equipment, home modifications and functional assessments, choose an OT who assesses you at home. On a region as spread out as the Central Coast, where peninsula and lakeside suburbs sit a long way from the Gosford and Erina clinic cluster, mobile visits are often the practical answer.
A big region with a big older population
More than one in five Central Coast residents is aged 65 or over, which is roughly 77,000 people, well above the Greater Sydney average. The region also has a dense belt of retirement villages around Erina and Tumbi Umbi and a large number of residential aged care homes. At the same time, the NDIA recorded around 13,088 active NDIS participants in the Central Coast district as at March 2026.
Geography is the catch. The Coast is long and fragmented by water: Brisbane Water in the south, the Tuggerah Lakes in the north. If you live in Umina Beach, Woy Woy, The Entrance, Toukley or Lake Haven, the trip to a clinic can be the hardest part of getting help, especially after a hospital stay at Gosford or Wyong.

How OT is funded on the Central Coast in 2026
Support at Home. The program that replaced Home Care Packages on 1 November 2025 funds occupational therapy as a clinical support, with equipment and home modifications handled through a separate assistive technology and home modifications scheme. Many Central Coast retirement village residents use these pathways alongside village services. My Aged Care (1800 200 422) remains the front door.
The NDIS. Plan funding covers OT assessments and therapy for eligible participants. If a review is approaching, get the assessment booked early so the report is ready in time.
Medicare and private. A GP Chronic Condition Management Plan can rebate up to five allied health sessions per calendar year, and private bookings need no referral. Funding settings are current as at July 2026; confirm your own position with My Aged Care, the NDIA or your GP.
