FAQs

Daily Living Assessments: your questions answered

Common questions about daily living assessments from NDIS participants, families and support coordinators across Liverpool and Western Sydney.

What is a daily living assessment?

A daily living assessment is an occupational therapy assessment of how you manage everyday activities, such as self care, cooking, cleaning and getting around. It identifies what you can do independently and where support could help, and the findings are summarised in a report.

What activities does it look at?

It looks at everyday tasks often called activities of daily living, including personal care such as showering and dressing, preparing meals, household tasks, and getting out into the community. The focus is on the activities that matter most to your independence.

Who needs a daily living assessment?

You may benefit from one if everyday tasks have become harder and you want to understand what support could help. NDIS participants often use these assessments to support planning and to evidence their daily support needs.

What happens during the assessment?

Your occupational therapist talks with you about your daily routine and observes how you manage certain tasks. They then identify practical supports, equipment or strategies that could help, and provide a written summary.

Will the NDIS fund a daily living assessment?

A daily living assessment may be funded under your NDIS plan, depending on your plan and goals. Funding is not guaranteed, so it is best to check with your support coordinator or planner before booking.

Who completes the assessment?

Your assessment is completed by a registered occupational therapist who is qualified to assess everyday functioning and recommend practical supports. Occupational therapists are registered with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia through AHPRA.

How long does it take, and when will I get the report?

A daily living assessment is usually completed across one or more sessions, followed by a written report once your therapist has reviewed the information. Timeframes vary with your needs, so we confirm what to expect when you book.

How do I arrange a daily living assessment?

You can arrange a daily living assessment by contacting Youcentric Care Group directly, or by asking your support coordinator, GP or allied health professional to send a referral. Call 1300 316 664 or email [email protected] and our team will guide you through the next steps.
